I knew I wanted to go back there right after my first shift because of the atmosphere and the people.
Why did you start working for Upshift?
I found Upshift online during the Summer of 2022. I was working as a chef at a local restaurant but was looking for a change of scenery after being there for a while. I wanted to find somewhere else to cook but didn’t have anywhere specific in mind. Upshift gave me access to a variety of different places so that I could figure out what I wanted to do next.
What do you do outside of Upshift?
I have 3 kids that are 16, 13 and 10 so they keep me really busy. They all play football so we spend a lot of time doing that. There are always different games and events that they need to go to so being available to do those things with them has been really important. A major benefit of joining Upshift has been the extra flexibility that allows me to spend more time with my sons.

Do you have any advice for new Upshifters?
Once you get onboarded, log on and start picking up shifts. I never worked on an app like this and wasn’t sure how it would work or if I would like it. It’s easy to be hesitant to start off with but you’ll find that it’s worth it. I’m so glad that I found Upshift because it had such a positive impact on my life.
What have been your favorite shifts so far?
I actually picked up my first shift the day after I onboarded and was immediately hooked. I love working at Eurest at Fed Ex as both a fry cook and grill cook. Working on the grill was really fun and we got to work on different menu items each day. I knew I wanted to go back there right after my first shift because of the atmosphere and the people. It was like a breath of fresh air from some of the other kitchens I’ve worked in.
