Working there made me realize that I love working with elderly people and it really feels like I found my calling.
Why did you start working for Upshift?
I was looking for a job to help pay some of my bills. My previous job closed down due to COVID so I hadn’t worked in a couple of years. I was ready to jump back into the workforce but was nervous after taking that break. I thought Upshift would be a great transition for me again and it turned out to be better than I could have asked for. The shifts have been great and I’ve actually met several friends from working on Upshift.
What do you do outside of Upshift?
I love to sing, which I’ve been doing for 20 years. I’m professionally trained and grew up singing in the choir. One of the coolest things is I’ve actually been able to sing for a few of the holiday events at St. George. I never would have expected that but it’s been such an awesome bonus. If I’m not doing something music, I’m usually at home spending time with my dog.

Do you have any advice for new Upshifters?
Always make sure to introduce yourself to the onsite managers and other staff members who you will be working with when you arrive onsite. It’s important that you know who to reach out to if you have any questions. Never hold back on asking for help when you need it. Everyone I’ve worked with has been really supportive and helpful.
What have been your favorite shifts so far?
I actually picked up my first shift at St. George Village. I was a bit nervous picking up my first shift but noticed their shifts were shorter in length. I thought that may be a good place to start and get some confidence on the platform. I ended up loving it ever since my first shift and just kept going back. The staff there made me feel right at home and always had time to answer any questions. Working there made me realize that I love working with elderly people and it really feels like I found my calling.
