Why did you start working for Upshift?
I left my previous position and was looking for something new that offered part time to full time hours. I wanted to start right away but knew that the application process for traditional jobs can be long and drawn out. Upshift allowed me to submit my application and start picking up shifts right away that fit with my schedule.
What do you do outside of Upshift?
I love football and volleyball. I actually have a son who plays college football so I spend as many Saturdays as I can watching his games. I’m also a huge Vikings and Gophers fan. It’s been a really fun year with the Vikings playing well. We have a fun offense with Cook, Thielen and of course Jefferson. I grew up playing volleyball and am hoping I can find a team near me so I can start playing again.

Do you have any advice for new Upshifters?
I think keeping an open mind is extremely important. I really wasn’t sure what to expect when I started but was open to trying a few different shifts. Upshift allows you to pick up a variety of different positions without being locked into one like a traditional job. This allows you to figure out which ones you enjoy and will be successful at.
What have been your favorite shifts so far?
I’ve mostly been working in Chartwells at University of Minnesota. Right from my first shift, I knew that I would want to come back because I really loved all the people there. Everyone from the staff, managers and students are awesome. I actually have two kids around the same age as the students so I can really relate to them and it’s like I’m talking to my own kids.
