I have a hospitality background so being able to work different positions has really helped me expand my skills in the industry.
Why did you start working for Upshift?
I found Upshift while I was searching online in August, 2021. I was working on some food delivery apps and really enjoyed the flexibility of them. However, being on the road for long periods of time really takes a toll on you. I started researching other gig economy type apps and Upshift popped up. The idea of being able to work shifts flexibly really appealed to me so I signed up that day.
What do you do outside of Upshift?
Over the past year, I’ve gotten really into working out. I started running consistently this past year and became obsessed with it. I run a few miles everyday now and that’s really had a positive impact on me. I also play soccer every week so my running routine has really helped me with my endurance for that. If I’m not working out or playing soccer, you can usually find me playing chess which is also one of my favorite hobbies.

Do you have any advice for new Upshifters?
I really wasn’t sure what to expect when I first joined Upshift as I had never worked on a platform like this. I was hesitant to pick up my first shift but decided to just go for it. I’m so glad that I did because it’s been a great experience. All the businesses treated me like I was part of the team even if it was my first shift there.
What have been your favorite shifts so far?
I’ve worked all over Charlotte since I joined Upshift. It’s really hard to narrow down my favorite places to work but some of the places that I’ve worked the most have been Charlotte Convention Center, Charlotte City Club, Ballantyne Hotel and UNCC. One of the coolest parts about Upshift is being able to work at different locations and positions each shift. I’ve worked everything from steward, cook, server, dishwasher and food service associate positions. I have a hospitality background so being able to work different positions has really helped me expand my skills in the industry.
