Why did you start working for Upshift?

I actually heard about Upshift back in 2019. I was going to school in Charlotte and was looking for something flexible that I could do once school wrapped up. I wasn’t able to pick up shifts in Charlotte due to COVID breaking out in 2020. I actually picked up my first shifts after COVID when I moved back to Columbus. I worked several months in Columbus before relocating to Kansas City where I plan to pick up shifts in the future.

What do you do outside of Upshift?

I don’t have a ton of free time with school these days, but I do love gardening and photography. My house is filled with plants so they need a lot of attention. I’ve always been an artist which is why I’m currently studying ceramics. Photography has just become another art form that I can enjoy outside of school. I love playing video games and watching different tv series that come out. The most recent series I watched was Wednesday which is a comedy that I’d recommend to anyone looking for a new show.

“I recommend picking up a variety of shifts at different locations so that you can figure out what you’re interested in doing and where you like working.”

Do you have any advice for new Upshifters?

I recommend picking up a variety of shifts at different locations so that you can figure out what you’re interested in doing and where you like working. Regardless of what work experience you have, each location has different shift lengths, job duties and experience requirements so figuring out what works best for you is really important to be successful.

What have been your favorite shifts so far?

I’m mostly focused on Banquet Serving and Food Service Worker positions as I have a hospitality background. I’ve worked at several different businesses around the city, but my favorite places would have to be Denison University and Columbus Museum of Art. The overall atmosphere was really positive at these locations and the staff were really friendly. Obviously, location, pay rate and schedule really matter when you’re looking for shifts but places that you have had a good experience with are the shifts you tend to gravitate towards.
