Why did you start working for Upshift?
I signed up for Upshift in February, 2022 after reading about it online. At the time, I was looking for a full-time position that offered more flexibility than traditional jobs. It took me a little while to figure out what shifts I wanted to work. I decided on my first shift a few weeks after my onboarding and never looked back.
What do you do outside of Upshift?
I’m a big family guy so you’ll usually find me with them in my spare time. I have a few nieces and nephews who we hang out with a lot. We love taking them to different restaurants, parks and events around Houston. I also spend a lot of time hanging out with my mom and helping her with anything she needs done around the house.

Do you have any advice for new Upshifters?
My advice is to accept the challenge and just go for it. There were shifts posted that I was hesitant to apply for when I first signed up. However, I didn’t let that stop me from giving them a try. I’m lucky to have done that because I wouldn’t have found all these great shifts by sitting on the sidelines.
What have been your favorite shifts so far?
When I first joined Upshift, I worked at a few different locations before picking up my first shift at Flik @ Kirkland and Ellis. That’s been one of my favorite places to work and where I’ve picked up most of my shifts on the platform. I worked some shifts as a dishwasher but the majority were as a line cook. I really enjoy getting to work and cook with the team at Flik. I’ve learned a lot from them about how kitchens operate and how to cook a variety of dishes.
