Upshifters of the Month
We are proud to announce that our Cincy Upshifters of the Month for March are Doddi H. and Austin F. They’ve both worked a number of shifts in both the service industry across Cincinnati through Upshift.
Doddi H.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m a mother and also a student at Cincinnati State. I’m currently studying International Affairs with a focus in Spanish, along with a minor in Early Childhood Education. My goal is to use my degree to become a bilingual teacher when I graduate.
How has it been working on Upshift?
Working on Upshift has been going really well for me. I have been working on the platform since the summer of 2017 and really enjoy having the opportunity to work at lots of different venues. For instance, I have worked shifts at Riverbend Music Center and at the Lego Exhibit at Newport on the Levee. Lately I’ve been working mostly banquet serving shifts at the Hyatt Regency and Duke Energy Convention Center. I have over ten years of experience in the service industry, so this has been a very fun and easy transition for me. I’ve been enjoying it so much that now I’m even thinking of trying out some warehouse shifts as well.
What do you like most about Upshift?
I love the flexibility that comes with it, especially with being a mom. This platform has allowed me to make extra money between taking care of my kids and going to school. It’s also really nice being able to know exactly when and where I am going to work and what I have to wear. Everything you need to know about the shift is right there on the app. I also love having the freedom to be my own boss by setting my own schedule and holding myself accountable.
Austin F.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m from Northwest Ohio but moved down here for college, where I attended Miami University. After graduating, I worked in the Peace Corps overseas for five years. I then came back in 2015 when I got a job at Channel 9 here in Cincinnati, where I currently work as a Web Editor for WCPO.com.
How has it been working on Upshift?
It’s been going really well so far. I actually heard about Upshift from seeing their news segment on Channel 9 and so I decided to give it a try. It’s a great way to make some extra cash so I can save up for fun things like vacations. I’ve worked shifts at a variety of places such as the Courtyard Marriott, Hyatt Regency, Newport Syndicate, Savannah Center, and Miami Valley Gaming. I’ve really enjoyed working the banquet shifts, especially with the other Upshifters. It’s been awesome meeting so many people from all different parts of the city. Everyone is really friendly and fun to work with.
What do you like most about Upshift?
I like that it offers so much flexibility. At my job, I don’t always work during normal hours so this allows me to work shifts during times that will fit with my schedule. The app makes it really easy to know exactly what to expect when I apply for a shift as well. I also like the variety of shifts offered. As a journalist, I’m usually sitting down doing a lot of writing on the computer, so working on Upshift gives me an opportunity to do something different from my normal routine. Another thing is that if you didn’t like working a certain shift, you don’t ever have to work it again. Upshift ultimately gives you the ability to choose when and where you want to work to make some extra money.
