Tell us what got you into Upshift?

I joined Upshift in 2021 when I decided to get back into the hospitality industry after the pandemic. I had worked in hospitality the first 20 years of my life but had been home with my family for the last 10 years. I wanted to get back into the industry but didn’t know where to start. Upshift allowed me to make my own schedule and pick the positions I was interested in which was perfect.

What do you do outside of work?

I love to workout, ride my bike and watch movies. I also have a passion for cooking so I love being in the kitchen trying out new recipes. I’ve always loved Italian food but recently I’ve been experimenting with different Chinese dishes. I found a few chefs cooking modern Chinese food and that really inspired me to dive into it. We’re lucky to have wonderful international food stores in Cleveland so it’s easy to get all the items you need to cook food recipes from around the globe.

Do you have any advice for new Upshifters?

I was just speaking to some new Upshifters about what I think has helped me the most. It’s great to have industry experience but more important than that is your attitude and work ethic. I’ve worked a lot of shifts since joining Upshift and those two things have been the main reasons why myself and other Upshifters I’ve worked with have been successful.

Would you recommend Upshift to your friends and family?

I have worked at a lot of different locations but some of my favorites have to be the St. Clair Ballroom, Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame and Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. I’ve really enjoyed working the Cavs games at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. It’s really fun being able to work on the same level as the court where you can hear the game and feel the excitement in the building.
