Upshifters of the Month

We are proud to announce that our Upshifters of the Month for July are Curtis F. and Laura B. They’ve both worked a number of shifts-Curtis in both service and light industrial roles and Laura in the service industry. Curtis runs one of the most successful laundromat businesses in Cincinnati and Laura is our first Upshifter of the Month from Columbus!

Tell us a bit about yourself.

Well I am a Navy veteran and a jack of all trades. I’ve done a lot of things in my time from furniture sales to working on sub-chasing destroyers but now I’ve settled into my favorite job yet- as the manager of the Super Laundry laundromat chain in Cincinnati. I get to work with my wife every day and I love the community we’ve created and seeing friendly faces every time I go into work.

How has it been working on Upshift?

It’s been great for me because of the flexibility. I can pick up a few extra hours every week at the pay and job I want and I get to choose when I want to do so. For example the last two weeks I’ve been picking shifts up in the evenings after I get off from my main job at Aero Fulfillment. The shifts are easy and it’s a great way to make some extra money.

What do you like most about Upshift?

The people I meet. I’ve met a lot of great people and specifically I really love Mike over at the Holiday Inn Airport and Steve at the Savannah Center. Both of those managers always make their shifts fun to work even though it can be a hectic environment at times.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I have a degree in addiction science and am studying to be an RN. I am a total jock and the first thing I do in the morning is turn on ESPN. I played every sport known to man growing up and only gave up a few years ago. I believe that if you’re going to work you got to do it right. My dad always said “Do it right or don’t do it at all.” and it’s the mantra I live by.

How has it been working on Upshift?

It’s been great for me. The type of people on Upshift are just of a higher caliber and I can say that because I worked for a staffing agency in the hospitality industry. People on Upshift don’t mess around and they do what needs to be done. I know if I’m working with Upshifters it’s going to be a good day because it’s always a team environment. When I worked for an agency I would never admit it but I tell everyone about Upshift and I’ve referred many of my friends.

What do you like most about Upshift?

The people. I love that I can call my Community Manager with any issues. I’ve also never met an Upshifter that hasn’t pulled their own weight and been professional and that’s very important when working in high-stress areas like catering. I love being able to pick and choose what I want to do and I’m really looking forward to more shifts popping up in Columbus soon.
