I’ve been working in kitchens for a long time and really love the fast-paced environment and urgency that those positions provide.
Why did you start working for Upshift?
I signed up for Upshift in October, 2021 after hearing about it from someone that I used to work with. I had always worked traditional full-time jobs. During the pandemic, I really appreciated the extra time that I got to spend with my dog and exploring my interests outside of work. Upshift allowed me to tailor my work life around the things I wanted and needed to do in my personal life.
What do you do outside of Upshift?
I’m about to go back to school so Upshift will be perfect for that schedule. I love traveling and doing different projects around the house when I’m not working. We recently drove down to Sarasota for a wedding. I had never been to the west coast of Florida but it was really great. On the way down, we stopped in Atlanta which is one of my favorite cities because of all the great food options. We love researching different food spots before we go so it’s planned out but it’s always hard to get to all of them.

Do you have any advice for new Upshifters?
I think it’s really important to learn from the people around you by paying attention and asking questions. I like to stay busy and find ways to help if someone around me needs it. That kind of attitude is always appreciated by the people you are working with.
What have been your favorite shifts so far?
I’ve worked the majority of my shifts at the University. I’ve been working as a line cook and food service associate. I have a hospitality background working both front and back of house positions, so it’s been perfect for me. I’ve been working in kitchens for a long time and really love the fast-paced environment and urgency that those positions provide.
