Why did you start working for Upshift?
I heard about Upshift in August, 2021 after retiring from my full-time job in health insurance. I was looking to get out of the house and make some extra money. I knew that I didn’t want a standard part time or full-time job with a set schedule. The flexibility of Upshift really appealed to me.
What do you do outside of Upshift?
After I retired I had a lot more free time that I needed to fill. I really enjoy reading, traveling, watching sports and movies. My favorite teams are the Bucks in basketball and the Chiefs in football. In terms of travel, I recently traveled to Los Angeles to visit my daughter and before that I visited Phoenix. I hadn’t been to Phoenix before and I really liked it. The last movie I saw in theatres was the new Jurassic Park and I’d recommend it.

Do you have any advice for new Upshifters?
I would recommend just going for it. It’s natural to be nervous to try something new but it’s definitely worth it. It took me a few shifts to decide which ones I really liked. I would not have known about them if I wasn’t willing to give them a try.
What have been your favorite shifts so far?
My favorite place to work has been at the MGM Northfield. I’ve been working as a host mostly at the TAPS sports bar. It’s a really fun atmosphere with the music and sports on the tvs. The staff were really welcoming and willing to help me learn. It was a great first impression and I’ve been going back ever since.
