It’s easy to be an Upshifter once you are on but we have a rigorous selection process consisting of an online personality assessment and an in-person meeting before you get started.
1. Apply online
You can apply online on our website by completing our personality assessment. Please keep in mind though that we only accept 12% of applicants! If you pass the online personality assessment we will invite you to schedule a time for an in-person onboarding and then you will be good to go!
2. Pick your Shift
Once you’ve finished the onboarding process, you can start picking up work. Using the Upshift app, you can see available shifts in your area and apply for the ones you want. Employers will then accept you for a shift and it’s all yours!
3. Build your Profile
After you work shifts, you will gain experience in the app and reviews from the businesses that you work for. As you gain experience, reviews, and skills, better opportunities will be available for you!
4. Get Paid
You’ll get paid directly to your bank account or cash card each Friday for the prior week. You can also get paid every day after you have worked on Upshift for at least two weeks through our partnership with earnin!

Frequently Asked Questions
You can complete the personality assessment in under 10 minutes online. We should let you know within 72 hours if you passed the assessment. There can be delays in getting an invitation to onboarding after passing the assessment because we have a waitlist in many cities.
Onboarding takes 30-45 minutes to complete. During onboarding you will fill out all of your tax and employment documents and complete a short orientation before becoming an Upshifter. We also e-verify all Upshifters, so you will need to bring a valid ID with you for this process. You can find a list of valid ID here: https://upshift.work/i9
All Upshifters are eligible to enroll in health, dental, and vision benefits after their first payday. You can also apply to receive early/same-day pay from our partner Earnin after receiving two paychecks from Upshift.
Many of the businesses that utilize Upshift require Upshifters to be background checked in order to work for them so we do conduct background checks on Upshifters.
