Tell us what got you into Upshift?
I heard about Upshift in March, 2022 and onboarded a week later. I was looking for gig work and the flexibility was very important to me. There are times when I need to travel and being able to adjust my schedule accordingly is great. I was also excited about being able to work shifts in other cities when I travel.
What do you do outside of work?
I love watching movies and gardening at home. I really enjoy thriller and action type movies like the Fast & Furious and Transformer franchises. One of my favorite movies of all time is the original Wizard of Oz. In terms of gardening, I’ve been growing a lot of fruits and vegetables. I take some of the seeds from the food that I cook and plant them at home. I’ve been growing everything from celery, potatoes, tomatoes and jalapeno peppers. One of my newest challenges is trying to grow pineapples which has been going really well so far.

Do you have any advice for new Upshifters?
I always check the shift details to make sure that I know exactly where I’m going so that I can ensure that I’m there early. You never want to be rushing to a shift because you weren’t prepared with your travel plans. Once you arrive onsite, make sure to communicate effectively with the onsite staff if you have questions or need help. Everyone I’ve worked with has been willing to help me when I’ve needed it.
Would you recommend Upshift to your friends and family?
I’ve worked at a variety of different venues since I joined Upshift such as country clubs, hotels, catering companies and the zoo. I’ve worked most of my shifts at SSA -Atlanta Zoo working as a cashier, prep cook and line cook. The zoo has definitely been my favorite place to work because the people there have been so welcoming and made me feel like an important part of the team.
