Why did you start working for Upshift?
I signed up for Upshift in December, 2021. I’m a retired educator so I was looking for something to do in my free time that offered a lot of flexibility. I worked for 30 years so when I retired I didn’t want something with a set schedule like most part time or full-time jobs. I couldn’t commit to 5 days a week so Upshift was perfect for me.
What do you do outside of Upshift?
I spend a lot of my free time traveling and reading. I got a taste of traveling as a kid because my father was in the military so we lived all over the globe including England and Japan. I’ve recently been to the Bahamas, Vegas, Germany and Spain. This coming Fall I’ll be going to the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Being able to pick up shifts around my trips has been hugely beneficial to someone like me who is retired and loves to travel.

Do you have any advice for new Upshifters?
Don’t be scared to try something you haven’t done before. I always recommend trying out a few different shifts to find what you like the best. Some of the shifts don’t require you to have experience so you can try something new to see if you like it. You can gain experience in a different industry and add new some skills.
What have been your favorite shifts so far?
I’ve worked a lot of my shifts at Classic Impressions and Tente Casters. I’ve enjoyed all my shifts but those are the places that I’ve worked the most. They really treat their staff well and you get to learn a lot from the people around you. At those locations, I’ve worked as a picker/packer and production assembler. I’ve also worked several hospitality positions including as a Banquet Server and Busser. I really enjoy that you have flexibility with the locations you work at, hours you work and positions you work.
