How a senior living dining room fills its shifts with people it trusts around its residents
“I've never had anybody from any position I've used Upshift for that I have thought, oh, I don't want them back here because of presentation.”
Heather LokesakDirector of Dining Services, Morrison Living- 88% return rate
- Same people on repeat
- A real human to call
01The problem
Strangers serving residents in their own home
Residents eat three meals a day in this dining room, weekends and holidays included, and the servers are part of their day. Jobs had been open for months, and the community is off the bus line. Every call-off meant someone new, and Heather could not know who would walk in.
“It's scary when people pick up and you don't know who they are… I need somebody that can come in and just do it.Heather Lokesak, Director of Dining Services
02What changed
Familiar faces her residents trust
Heather sends her regulars the schedule and lets them pick their days. When someone calls off, one text to her account manager books a person she already knows.
03Where
A senior-living dining room in northern Kentucky
Heather runs dining for a Morrison Living community. Her servers are part of every resident's day.
- Northern Kentucky
- 7 days a week
- Dining room servers
- Dishwashers

04The result
Thanks to Upshift, Heather can…
Put people she trusts in front of her residents
“I've never had anybody from any position I've used Upshift for that I have thought, oh, I don't want them back here because of presentation.”

Skip the interviews: the vetting is already done
“You've done the hard work for me. You've interviewed them, you've talked to them, you've decided, yes, this person can do this job. And now I just get to borrow them from you.”

See the same people on repeat every week
“If you go look at my account you'll see the same people on repeat…”

Book a shift with one text on a hectic day
“It's really hectic here at times … he just does it and takes care of it all for me.”

05New people
Her residents see the same trusted faces
Weekends and holidays are the hardest shifts to fill. Heather sends her regulars the schedule and they pick their days, so the people serving her residents are people she already knows.
“I literally send them my schedule and say, this is what I have, what do you want, and I let them pick.Heather Lokesak, Director of Dining Services
I think it's the ease of using that, the quality of the people that I get, and then having the support of somebody that you can call. It's not an app that you're texting to. It's a real human.
