I’ve been working at the Phoenix Convention Center for a few years so I’ve built a great relationship with the team there
Tell us what got you into Upshift?
I was at a shift and met a few Upshifters who were working alongside me. They spoke really highly of Upshift so I thought it was worth a shot. I was getting ready to retire and wanted to have an option to work a few shifts without committing to a set schedule. Upshift has allowed me to work as much or as little as I’ve wanted which has been perfect.
What do you do outside of work?
I just retired so I’m getting used to having more free time after a few decades of working. I’m hoping to pick up a few new hobbies as time moves on. However, I’ve always enjoyed hiking and Arizona has some great options. I really try to take advantage of the Winter months for hiking as it gets too hot during the Summer.

Do you have any advice for new Upshifters?
The main advice I would give is to pick shifts which allow you to show your strengths. You can see all the shift descriptions and requirements before applying which will allow you to choose shifts where you can be successful.
What has your experience been like on Upshift?
I had a couple decades of hospitality experience before joining the platform which has allowed me to work a variety of shifts such as banquet server, concessions worker, Cook, Bartender and few others. I’ve really enjoyed all my shifts. One of my favorite places to work has been at the Phoenix Convention Center as a Concessions Worker. I really love working with the team there and that is what keeps me going back.
