Why did you start working for Upshift?

I heard about Upshift from a coworker who had signed up a few weeks before. He was really excited to be able to pick up shifts through the app whenever he wanted so I decided to give it a try. I was looking to make a transition back into the hospitality world so this was the perfect place for me. I completed my onboarding at the end of September and started picking up shifts that week.

What do you do outside of Upshift?

When I’m not working, I try to spend as much time with my family and friends as possible. I also love to read and consume information on a variety of different topics from science to business to food. That’s also why I love watching the discovery channel and history channel. I’ve always been interested in learning about random things no matter how obscure they might be. It has really helped me grow and expand my view of the world around me.

Do you have any advice for new Upshifters?

I always reach out to the managers once I arrive onsite to understand their expectations so that I can fulfill them to the best of my ability. If you aren’t sure how to do something, make sure to follow up with the manager to clear it up. The other piece of advice would be to find something that you enjoy doing. There are a variety of different shifts to choose from through the platform. Once you find a shift or position that you love, focus on it because you’ll be more likely to succeed if you enjoy what you’re doing.

What have been your favorite shifts so far?

I’ve worked at well over a dozen different businesses and really have enjoyed all of them. I enjoy roles where you can work on a team and interact with customers. That’s why I’ve focused my attention on hospitality shifts. If I had to choose my favorite place to work it would be Russo’s Catering. I’ve worked as a server with them and really respect how professional they are and how friendly their staff is.
